there is an options:
1. In you gmail account enable Pop3 access. So if Gmail web server goes down while you have an urgency to access your email, you could use any desktop email client to connect to gmail through Pop3 protocol to pick up your mail. Such clients include Thunderbird from Mozilla or Outlook from Microsoft.</description>
